Gene Ishmael, 89 of Flemingsburg, Kentucky, passed away Tuesday, February 3, 2026, at St. Joseph Hospital in Lexington, Kentucky.
He was born on May 21, 1936, in Tilton, Kentucky, a son of the late Pat Casey Ishmael and Lorene Barnes Ishmael.
Gene was a farmer and he enjoyed working on his farm, fishing, square dancing, building and tinkering with things.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, Mark Alan Ishmael and two brothers, Charles Ishmael and James Franklin “Bobby” Ishmael,
Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Jo Ann Turner Ishmael, whom he married on November 14, 1959, one son, Andrew Ishmael (Paula) of Flemingsburg, one daughter, Penny Ishmael (Boone Jewell) of Flemingsburg, one brother, Pat Casey Ishmael, Jr. (Wydonna) of Mt. Olivet, Kentucky, two sisters, Maye Applegate of Tollesboro, Kentucky and Ruth Ishmael of Flemingsburg, four grandchildren, Daydra Slone (Phillip), Whitney Cox (Michael Daughtry), Ashley Ishmael and Becky Powers (Fletcher), several great-grandchildren which includes special great-granddaughter, Paisley Ramey and several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, February 10, 2026, in the chapel of the Price Brothers Funeral Home in Elizaville with Jerry Hicks officiating.
Burial will follow in the Longview Cemetery at Bethel.
Visitation at the Price Brothers Funeral Home is after 12:00 Noon on Tuesday.
Pallbearers will be Jerry Kissick, Randy Ishmael, Anita Mae Masters, Molly Hardy, Jerry Neff and Linda Garrison. Honorary pallbearers will be Charles Stacy, Eddie Ishmael and John Royse.
