James "Jim" Logan Carpenter

January 27, 1943 — July 20, 2024

Mt. Olivet

James Logan Carpenter passed peacefully, at home, surrounded by his beloved family and friends on July 20, 2024. He is survived by his loving wife of over 62 years, Mary Ruark Carpenter and his daughters and their husbands, Denise and Danny Earlywine of Ewing, Tina and James Fulton of Mayslick and Crystal and Billy Kaiser of Maysville. Also surviving are his grandchildren Justin and Shawnda Earlywine of Ewing, Jeremy Earlywine of Ewing and William Kaiser of Maysville.

He was born January 27, 1943, in Maysville, Kentucky to the late Edward "Doc" Carpenter and Lucille Wells Carpenter.

Jim had many loves in his life and that was expanded to include his great grandchildren who were his favorite entertainment, Karsyn Earlywine, Ellie Ray Earlywine, Jace Fizer, Elena Fulton and 'Mora Fulton. Also surviving are his remaining sisters Geneva Price, Barbara Campbell; Brother Eddie Thomas, and his baby brother, Roger Dale Carpenter.

He was loved by all of his family, including his great MANY nieces and nephews. He had special bonds with each of them and cherished every coon hunt, horse ride, family dinner, tobacco season and adventure he shared with each of them and especially appreciated all the help they provided as his health began declining, from feeding the horses, to just coming and sitting under the shade tree or on the front porch visiting after work or coming in for dinner time during hunting season. He cherished the memories and the stories they shared together from years gone by.

Proceeding him in Heaven were his parents, Edward "Doc" Carpenter and Lucille Wells Carpenter along with his brothers and sisters, Robert Carpenter, C.H. Carpenter, Joyce Tuel, Christine Bartlett, Ruby Barton and Mary Helphenstine; and his grandson, Brandon Clos and his granddaughter Lauren Elizabeth Kaiser and his first great grandchild Logan James Kaiser.

Born humble and kind and raised in a family full of love, he extended that same thing to his own family when he fell in love and married Mary Ruark. He grew up working hard and reaping the benefits of being a remarkable son, brother, husband, daddy and Papaw.

He was a farmer from the day he was born and loved every minute of it. From working the ground with the horses, to harvesting the crops and milking the cows. His life was full and rewarding and although humble and modest. He never wanted for more than the love of his family and friends. He always had what he needed and was never greedy! He would share a meal, share a ride, or offer help to anyone in need, whether it was helping in their crop or rolling hay to shoveling snow from a neighbor's driveway.

He wasn't one to value material things. He cared more about the satisfaction that came from hard work and the friends and memories that he was able to make with his family and friends! He was loved by so many. It is impossible to mention everyone who meant so much to him, but if you knew him...you know that he made sure you knew how he felt. Whether he was telling a tall tale to someone and making it so believable that you questioned everything you already knew or if he was just picking and kidding around. He was one in a million and loved like no other.

He taught his girls what a real man is from the time they were born to the time they found their own husbands. He adored his girls and appreciated each one of them their unique personalities! He never judged them for their decisions, he loved them unconditionally and he made sure that they knew that! He never preached to them, he led by example and by doing so he was well respected by not only his family but also strangers who became friends after one conversation.

James Logan Carpenter was a force! He was small but mighty and probably the strongest man his daughters ever knew. He was always a phone call away, whether it was car trouble, a broken water pipe, or even a car crashing in the front yard in the middle of the night! He was out of bed and out the door in the blink of an eye. He was the protector, the provider and greatest daddy and Papaw ever! There was nothing he couldn't do and if he didn't readily know the answer, he thought on it until he knew what to do!

He always knew that he wanted to leave this world surrounded by love and in his own bed, and that is just what he did...on HIS terms. He leaves behind a legacy of love in his family who adore him and will cherish the memories of all the years gone by.
