John Stevenson "Steve" Howe

John Stevenson "Steve" Howe, 59 of Ewing, Kentucky passed away Thursday, August 17, 2023 at the Univeristy Of Kentucky Chandler Medical Center in Lexington, Kentucky.

Born July 6, 1964 in Flemingsburg, Kentucky to the late John Given Howe and Johnnie Day Royse Howe.

Steve spent his liftime working on the farm from raising tobacco, hay and cattle, to operating a dairy. Steve was also a member of the Favorite Lodge 581 in Ewing, the Kentucky Auctioneer Association, Fleming County Cattlemens Association and was a longtime member and past Chief of the Ewing Volunteer Fire Department. Steve enjoyed tractor pulls and was the announcer for many, and he enjoyed UK sports. 

He was also a member of the Flemingsburg First United Methodist Church

Steven started his auctioneering career in 1984 when he won the Kentucky State Fair auctioneering contest. He went on to work for Terry Lytle and worked many machinery, tobacco auctions, and benefits . He was well known for his auctioneering technique and many called him the best. He also was a former owner of H & S Machinery. He was an avid collector of John Deere toy tractors.
He loved his farm life. He grew up on the dairy and tobacco farm which in later years turned to beef cattle. He took special interest in his miniature donkeys, cats and dogs.
He spent a lot of time at Ewing Handimart and was known for his love to “gab”. He would talk to anyone and you knew if you started a conversation. You were going to be there for a while.
Known as “Tevie” his nieces and nephew were his pride and joy.

Steve was preceded in death by his parents. 

Survivors include one sister, Jennie Lee Applegate and her husband Jason of Flemingsburg; two nieces, Lauren Day Applegate and Haylee Nicole Applegate; one nephew, John Scott Applegate; cousins, Caren Prater of Flemingsburg and Shae Prater. Several other cousins, relatives and friends and members of the Ewing Community; also a special friend, Anita Ashcraft Corbin of Ewing.

Services will be conducted at 11:00 A.M. Saturday August 26, 2023 in the chapel of the Price Brothers Funeral Home with Brother Greg Grimes and Brother Robbie Shrout officiating.

Steve will be laid to rest next to his parents in the Hillsboro Cemetery.

Visitiation will be after 5:00 P.M. Friday at the funeral home. 

Masonic services by Favorite Lodge No. 581 will be conducted 7:30 pm Friday evening at the funeral home.

Casket bearers will be Roy Hickerson, Donnie Lowe, Frankie Vice, Jackie Hughes, Mike Savey  and Trent Kirkland.
