Lela Clarence "L. C." Cord Jr.

Lela Clarence “L. C.” Cord Jr., 93, passed away peacefully at Thomson-Hood Veterans Center in Wilmore, Kentucky, while under Hospice Care on Saturday, February 18, 2023.

He was born July 31, 1929 near Cowan, Kentucky, a son of the late Lela Clarence Cord Sr. and Charlene Teegarden Cord.

L. C. attended school in Fleming County, Kentucky and grew up helping his parents on their family farm.  He entered the Army at a young age and served in Germany during World War II.  After his discharge from duty, he returned to Fleming County and purchased a farm on Buchanan Road, where he began a career raising cattle and tobacco.  Soon afterwards, he married Mary Daugherty Conner.

L. C. became magistrate of the 6th district in Fleming County, which he held for 28 years.  Many times he would be called late at night by his constitutes for help; he would be ready to help anytime!

L. C. was a large supporter of the Democratic Party and never missed their events.  After retiring, he was appointed a Kentucky Colonel.

L. C. enjoyed serving his country, county and family.

He attended the Mt. Tabor United Methodist Church and had served as a board member of the Sunnyside Cemetery near Ewing, Kentucky for many years.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mary, his son, Eddie Cord, stepson, Philip Conner, two brothers, Bill Cord and an infant brother, a sister, Marcella Tincher and a grandson, Travis Conner.

Survivors include his stepson, Larry (Shirley) Conner, whom he made his home with in his late years, two granddaughters, three grandsons, three great-granddaughters, four great-grandsons, two great-great-granddaughters and soon to be one great-great-grandson.  Also, nieces and nephews, Brenda (Greg) Letcher, Calvin Allen Tincher, Kathy Cord (Frank) and Bill (Jill) Cord Jr. and his neighbors and friends.

Graveside services and burial will be conducted at 2:00 P.M. Thursday, February 23, 2023 at the Sunnyside Cemetery on Mt. Tabor Road near Ewing, Kentucky conducted by Jarrod Fritz.  Full military honors will be conducted at the cemetery by the W.N. Fant American Legion Post No. 5, Franklin Sousley VFW Post 1834 and the United States Army.

Visitation at the Price Brothers Funeral Home in Elizaville will be from 12:00 Noon to 1:30 P.M. Thursday.

In lieu of flowers, contributions are suggested in honor of Lela C. Cord Jr. to the Mt. Tabor United Methodist Church, 1187 Mt. Tabor Road, Ewing, Kentucky, 41039.
