Ricky Darrell Gray

Ricky Darrell Gray, 69, of Junction Road, Elizaville, Kentucky passed away January 13, 2024 at Hospice of Hope Care Center in Maysville, Kentucky after a recent battle with cancer.

He was born July 26, 1954 in Carlisle, Kentucky, the son of the late Ray Kenneth Gray and Thelma George Gray.

Ricky was a Kentucky Master Logger, working with his father since the age of 15 with Gray and Sons logging. He previously was a grader and timber buyer for Richard White Wood Products. In addition he was a landowner and farmer. After his retirement from logging his hobby was working as a greenskeeper at the Fleming County Golf Association and transporting his Amish neighbors. 

He was an avid fan of U.K. basketball and football and the Cleveland Browns and he enjoyed coaching his sons during their childhood in basketball and football.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Barbara Gray Applegate; his sister-in-law, Marsha Hart Jones; two brothers-in-law, John Womack and Jack Applegate; and two nephews, Hunter Womack and Mark Jones.

Survivors include his wife of 40 years (together 51) Peggy Hart Gray; two sons, Whitt Gray (Johnna) of May's Lick, Kentucky and Ricky "Richie" D. Gray II (Erika) of Ewing; two brothers, Michael Gray (Lisa) of Morehead, Kentucky and Gregory Gray (Debbie) of Ewing; two brothers-in-law, George Jones of Maysville, Kentucky and Frazee Hart of Flemingsburg, Kentucky; sister-in-law, Amanda Womack of Nicholasville, Kentucky; five grandchildren, Emma Gray, Maeci Gray, twins, Zeke and Zane Gray, and J.D. Gray and several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. 

Services will be conducted at 1:00 P.M. Thursday, January 18, 2024 in the chapel of the Price Brothers Funeral Home in Elizaville with Rev. Greg Grimes officiating.

Ricky will be laid to rest next to his parents and sister in the Elizaville Cemetery.

Visitation will be after 5:00 P.M. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Casket bearers will be Billy Dean Frederick, Darrell Saunders, Danny Moran, Gaines Womack, Andrew Owens and Stevie Adams.

Honorary casket bearers will be Scottie Mitchell, Ronnie Helphenstine, Tim Snedegar, Danny Pfeffer, Tommy Wayne Gray, Mark Gray, Steve Womack, Pat Price, Dean Wallingford, and Roger Owens.

Memorial contributions are suggested to the Hayswood Home Health, Hospice of Hope, or Cancer Care Club in Flemingsburg.
